Arboleda was absent from São Paulo in the goalless draw with Internacional on Thursday at Heriberto Hulse Stadium in Criciúma, for the eighth round of the Brazilian Championship. The Ecuadorian defender, however, does not worry about the next Sunday's derby against Corinthians at Itaquera. Arboleda traveled with the delegation to Criciúma, but didn't even make it to the bench due to a blister on his foot that took him out of the match against Cruzeiro on June 2 at Morumbis, such was the discomfort.
Because of this blister on his foot, Arboleda could not train in the same way that his teammates trained in recent days, being preserved in certain situations so that the problem did not worsen even more. As he did not have the same preparation as the other players in the squad, Arboleda ended up being preserved by the coaching staff from the match against Internacional, also because he is an absolute starter and his presence will be indispensable in the next commitment of São Paulo, against Corinthians, away from home.
The internal assessment is that Arboleda did have the conditions to play against Internacional, but not in the same way as his teammates. Thus, it was up to Diego Costa to seize the opportunity to show coach Luis Zubeldía that he also has the potential to be used more frequently.
The expectation is that on Friday Arboleda will participate normally in training at CT da Barra Funda. He will be the only player who should start playing against Corinthians to go on the field in the two training sessions before the derby, since the other starters will undergo a regenerative workout the day after the goalless draw with Inter.
