Sao Paulo's Rogerio Ceni, the world's highest-scoring goalkeeper, has broken his ankle in a training and is likely to be out for up to six months.
The free kick and penalty specialist who has won almost every possible major trophy with his club, also tore a ligament in the incident, the Brazilian champions said on their website.
Brazilian media said the injury happened during a six-a-side practice match on Monday when the 36-year-old fell awkwardly on his ankle.
Rogerio Ceni is a rarity in modern football as a one-club player, having joined Sao Paulo as a 17-year-old in 1990. Under his captaincy, Sao Paulo have won the Brazilian championship for the last three years and in 2005 they also won the Copa Libertadores Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
He was in the Brazil squad at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups™ and has scored 83 goals in 849 appearances for his club.
